Clowns for a Cause

Image
Waking up today after -finally- a decent sleep shaking off the thrill of the last two days has left me in such an awe, not realizing anytime before the amount of encouragement we are receiving, the thumbs up and the curious ones wanting openly to join us next time. Long story short, as an immediate result of my early morning sluggishness, we had decided, we as in a bunch of fellow white-hearted friends, to carry on the clown flashmob habit that started in 2013 by Mutaz Salloum, as a concrete reaction to the horrible tremor that was taking place in Jabal Mohsen & Tebbaneh, both of which areas now are thankfully in a state of peace after a political resolute earlier last year. We invaded both towns regardless of the warnings and all the threats. They were a blast, a total success. Fast forward to 2015, Maya Abas and a bunch of enthusiasts that gathered from all over the country, literally, had also taken their toll on both Haret el Tanak (literally the tin neighborhood) and Dahr el ...

Dreams come true

Image
The aftermath, shot this morning. Last night was the night you'd smile for, such a peaceful, echoless evening. It was the type of night I'd obviously have to spend outside. What's so good about sleeping on the rooftop you ask? If it weren't sleeping to the clear black starry sky, then the chilly summer breeze should be tempting enough to drag you out of the warmth of your bedroom. Upon setting up the foldable bed we had, mattress and pillow, it was time for me to rest and enjoy the view. I love how, whenever I sleep outside, I get both sensations of becoming so warm on the body level, while head and hands are enjoying the summer breeze. It gives me a chance to play a little game before sleeping, where the goal is trying to equalize body temperature enough to the point where I could fall asleep :-) My companion whenever I sleep outside. Last thing I remember seeing was the starless sky above me, I remember closing my eyes and for the first time I shouted out m...

An Unforeseen Traffic in Beirut

Image
Left Tripoli at 7:10AM , reached my office at 12:00PM... (Photo by The Daily Star/Hasan Shaaban) Today was supposed to be another normal day in Beirut, getting to your office shouldn't take more than what you are used to, usually 20 minutes is more than enough to move around the capital in one direction. And for those who commute daily from outside of the capital, just like me, and have to drive several tens of kilometers on the road each morning, are constantly anxious about any mishap that would delay their timetable, even if it were by one minute, because they know the aftermath of it, and the price they will pay having to drive the same distance when going back home.  My day kicked off by leaving my house at 7:10AM as usual, wasn't surprised by the daily traffic at the casino area, but was rather shocked by the news I read on my phone saying the army is performing rehearsals for the independence day military show, that usually no one watches, but would ra...

My 30 Day Challenge - Day 12

Image
Day 12 - A picture of something you love. (Read more about the  30-Day Challenge ) "The best things in life are free".. I wish I had the ability to shoot a slow motion footage of someone stepping foot at the end of a jump, especially the facial expressions. A total thrill I must admit, an easy sport that suits all ages and guaranteed to bring back a smile, even if it ended mistakenly with a fall on the side or the knees..

My 30 Day Challenge - Day 10

Image
Day 10 - A picture of the person you do the most messed up things with. (Read more about the  30-Day Challenge ) Indeed :) it's not a single person, a whole bunch of a Lebanese Salad, the above four when combined together can only make the earth shake and giggle. I never get that silly with anyone else, it HAS to be the four of them to totally enjoy the moment. Although these are enough to make me laugh and be happy, both of my other cousins, Marwan and Wissam were also the charm, even much more than we are now, but unfortunately chances were they had to travel to Australia at such a young age. If it weren't for those 3, I would've had a truly despicable time growing up. Thank you...

My 30 Day Challenge - Day 8

Image
Day 08 - A picture that makes you laugh. (Read more about the  30-Day Challenge ) Among all the chaos in our surrounding, I have to admit, I NEVER laughed so hard at a photo like I did at this one. I spent the whole 10 minutes giggling while preparing that photo and in the end it was simply a blast over the internet =D Btw Ranin El Chaar was awesome that night. And Mayada was awesomer to have the high spirit and allow me use this photo.

Those Walk Among Us - Part 2

Image
When the Fail is so strong, one Facepalm is not enough. And here goes your part 2 "Pizza" While working at a pizza parlour I observed a man ordering a small pizza to go. He appeared to be alone and the cook Asked him if he would like it cut Into 4 pieces or 6. He thought about it for some time Then said 'Just cut it  into 4 pieces; I don't think I'm hungry Enough  to eat 6 pieces. They walk among us! "Dumb as a box of Rocks" A  noted psychiatrist was a guest speaker at an academic function where Nancy Pelosi happened to appear. Ms Pelosi took the opportunity to schmooze the good doctor a bit and asked him a question with which he was most at ease. "Would you mind telling me,  Doctor" she asked, "how you detect a mental deficiency in somebody who appears completely normal?" "Nothing is easier", he replied. 'You ask a simple question which anyone should answer with no trouble. If the person hesitates, ...

Those Walk Among Us - Part 1

Image
Because expressing how dumb that was in words just doesn't work This is a series of really hilarious, yet inspiring posts and short stories we encounter on a daily basis. While some of us are getting blinder each and every day, we simply can't disregard the inevitable stupidity of some of us. Let's face it, we've been ALL there before. Have a blast people, here it comes. Disclaimer: The "Those walk among us" series are not my work in any way, nor did I ever put any effort in creating the ideas and examples they emphasize. Enjoy! "The Fridge" Some  guy bought a new fridge for his house. To get  rid of his old fridge, he put it in his front yard  and hung a Sign on it saying: 'Free to good  home. You want it, you take it.' For three days  the fridge sat there without anyone looking  twice. He eventually decided that people were  too mistrustful of this deal. So he changed the  sign to read: 'Fridge for sale $50.' The  next...

Free Hugs in Beirut

Image
There were 12 of us, gathered indifferently, totally randomly. We didn't know each other before, we were clueless of who will we meet, what we'll be doing, and what would the reactions be like. 12 distinct bodies we were, but it appeared to me later that we were much less than 12, we were one. Each and everyone of them was the joy the streets witnessed that afternoon, sticking their cardboards on restaurants windows, or simply popping up in front of the passengers, thus spreading happiness, if not with a hug, then by a simple gesture. They were heroes, explaining our goal for anyone who wondered, breaking the ice to anyone who had his doubts and fears, bringing joy to silent alleys and dull restaurants. Smile never left their faces even though the whole walk was seriously tiring under that afternoon's burning sun. Too many people spotted us, too many souls rejoiced for once, too many smiles were born that day, too many lives will be changed afterwards. I recall some of ...

Being Broke 101

Image
I've always took a decision to be my own financial boss, my own financial supervisor ever since I knew I'm in an era where there's no going back to being broke. But just like any other game, life has cheated. Five days ago I left my parents' house in Tripoli back to my house in Beirut just as any other Sunday, with the sole difference of having no more than 6000 LBP (4$) in my back pocket. My luck and thoughts before that weekend relied on the fact that my BankerNet card still has 18,000 LBP (12$) which is more than enough to buy the essential house needs such as bread, cheese and others (I always buy in small quantities). But to my heart-banging surprise, the card was rejected at the supermarket and I clearly had to pay the 4$ to the cashier (to save any embarrassment there is). Tough luck I assure you, but quiet an unforgettable experience it was. Believe me when I tell you, having no money every once in a while feels good. Watching the brands of commercial chocolate...

A Tripolitan Meme

Image
A photo was posted today on a local meme group, run by a bunch of close friends. I don't call myself a funny person, never do. But that exact photo caught my eye, and simply launched a burst of thoughts and humorous ideas concerning the characters involved. There were two of the most famous and most renowned political figures in Tripoli. They seemed to enjoy the atmosphere, the pasta that was given away at the recent marathon, more than they ever did when their city was under fire. Alas, and without further ado, here are my memes: The one I enjoyed the most
