My 27th day of birth

Image
Never thought I'd admit this, but here we go, this is officially the most emotional bday I ever had. I was surprised in the most amazing ways, I was shocked in the loveliest manners, I was moved like never before. From my coworkers' little surprise(s) to Rayyan's messages, I felt like the world was paying me back. A collage of the pics I spent my morning taking :) I love them all, for everything they did. For the rush of Suha printing the poster that last minute after asking me about a photography quote I liked best. For the remembrance and possibly the overwhelming thoughts of what to do that Rayyan went through till she finally sent me those memorable messages and eventually making me weep. For the effort some put into reading my last year's post and more importantly putting more effort into doing any sort of action. I love them all for the initiative they took, for the steps they did, wandering from colleague to another gathering money and thinking of what sor...

Anonymous Confessions, The Epilogue

Image
Source:  Original Article The Last Confession was the straw that broke the camel's back: What I started on my previous post  was phenomenal, it was pretty obvious that I had to document it. If you're still unfamiliar with what I'm talking about, check the Anonymous Confessions blog post; I had announced I want to play a game, based on the work of an american artist. Source:  Anonymous Confessions The thread of confessions started out with the following: "I still love her" "İt hurts not to see him" "I do care about what people think of me" Several anonymous persons decided to join later on, upon seeing the first feedback, and thought it might be a good idea to throw in their own confession, since, in the end, everything was totally anonymous. The majority spoke of relationships, parents, self esteem, aspirations, and unfinished love stories. Until the last guest posted their comment : "Confession 1: I wish I can help everyone who...

Dewy Conversations

Image
Here's what went through my mind during my morning nap in the minibus: Photo by Rayyan Jamous "I just realized that I have no passion, I don't remember the last time I risked my life for something; I am passive generally and don't have any sort of personal extremism. I cannot define things easily. I have trouble with maintaining relationships. I suck at time management and prioritizing. I am selfish though I have lots to give, which gives me constant headache. I realized I have a great amount of grudge, being the only answer to most of the emotional problems I faced, thus making it a trend to see my frown in the mirror. I came to know I am literally empty, and I know it. I wait no compassion from anyone because I've had enough with compliments: compliments to me are lies with make-up. What if I've been living a lie all these years? First at class for several years in a row? I never asked to be classified as the front row geek at school, regardless ...

Anonymous Confessions

Image
Let's play a game, shall we? Apparently there's been an exhibition, a public art project for the american artist  Candy Chang  who thought it would be interesting to open up a space where people can anonymously project their confessions, their deepest secrets, and enjoy the reaction of whoever reads it. Source: Original Article "By the end of the exhibition, over 1500 confessions were displayed on the walls. It’s about sex, love, or fears of dying alone. By collecting the confessions of the hotel’s visitors, this project seeks to create a cathartic sanctuary for this temporary community and help us see we are not alone in our quirks, experiences, and struggles as we try to lead fulfilling lives." Source: Original Article Source: Original Article This post is written for the benefit of the public. I invite you everyone to do the same, let's share our secrets. Hint : Post your confession in the comment field below while choosing the " ...

Seven Times Have I Despised My Self

Image
To begin with, I need to point out that the title is not of my creation. It's been stuck in my memory, and I always wondered when would I ever use it. I guess this is it. more photos here  In order to keep myself aware of how much bad the human being can do, or to simply highlight to my own self that I can be of nuisance, I need to constantly check myself, to gratify it when it does good, and punish it when it messes up with the morals I go by. What triggered this post now was something I read over Facebook. A page that broadcasts news about the Syrian war has just announced a breaking news, the death of a Jaylani Cheikh in Syria upon invading his house by the "Forth Squad". For a split second, a feeling of gloating just found its way through my veins. To all those who don't know what Jaylani is, a jaylani way (belief) is one that has taken its own road far away from the basics of Islam. Jaylanis believe fondly in their "Cheikh" or master, a person who...

Restoring Faith in Humanity

Image
This post is to talk about Lebanese humans, nothing more, nothing less. And for your information, Humanity STILL exists in my country, whether you've seen it or not, whether you agree or you don't. A few minutes after 2:30PM yesterday Friday OCT 19th 2012, a huge explosion shook the building I work at and of course, the whole area, to the point that I thought glass was going to break all over. It was easy to see from my window people in the street looking towards one direction, that is of the nearby Ashrafiyyeh. My colleague thought it was the nearby gas station that exploded, but going to the building's roof, it was more than clear. Sassine was on fire. I had so many friends over there, Reine worked in the Hotel Dieu Hospital, Maryam lives there, Navia and Riwa also live/work there, Chris also, and they were all one minute away from the explosion. Lines were down, both fixed and mobile, congestion prevented anyone from calling any person that was there. I mana...

My 30 Day Challenge - Day 16

Image
Day 16 - A picture of someone who inspires you. (Read more about the  30-day Challenge ) To start with today's challenge, let's try to define the character that shall give inspiration to the person I am today: he (supposedly it's a he) must be of an enormous value, an indescribable presence and an irreplaceable impact in his surrounding. He must possess the highest levels of morals there is, an incomparable amount of intelligence and wisdom, an utter height of compassion and the absolutely least portion of anger and hatred. He shall not be weak, never pessimist nor downbringing. He is a leader, a father and a husband. He is the true image of a man we all dream of. He holds the most exalted title of wits and intellect, while at the same time never condone his soft side. He must be a romantic person, a fair player in the field of husbandry and a role model to both his wife and his children. I bet most of my personal friends already know where I'm heading, and to al...

My 30 Day Challenge - Day 9

Image
Day 09 - A picture of the person who has gotten you through the most. (Read more about the  30-Day Challenge ) Photo Courtesy of Karim Zock She is indeed the most person that helped me go through obstacles of life, even though they were only 2 years, but I had witnessed an enormous and indescribable amount of support and unconditional help, in all its measures. I can't forget the day I was sick of being an expatriate alone in KSA right on the edge of breaking down in tears; She, as always, was there to forget what had had been with her at the moment and simply focus all her senses and intuition in the prospect of leading me through the dilemma. I also cannot forget all the times I mistreated myself, let it be an eating disorder or simply not taking any pills or not visiting the doctor when I must've. She was my guiding angel ever since I knew her. No other non-family person could ever insist on my paying attention to myself and constantly, no matter what, stay awar...

Superficial Birthday Wishes

Image
Photo credit:  http://tuneoftheday.blogspot.com   I have no clue what effort have I put to deserve such superficial birthday wishes from people who supposedly share a place for me in their hearts. It was time for a change, a simple change that reflects both my utmost satiation with the ongoing blind reaction most of us get on their birthday, and at the same time providing people that mean to me a chance to arise from a constant numbness that cursed our social interaction. It was time for us to realize that "Wishing" is not enough, the first step begins in action. Surely I wasn't asking anything for ME, I begged people to go do something for themselves, consider my birthday as a sign from god that this day, just like any other day when it's surely someone else's birthday, is a day to embrace happiness, not smiling-all-the-time happiness, I'm talking here about inner peace. Do What You Love.. Here's what I posted  on my  Facebook Profile  just tonight:...

Free Hugs 2: The Sequel

Image
Group photo, courtesy of Nath Halawani "Our Hugs from the heart.. Made last night a "night to remember".. You guys & gurls were AMAZING"... So much joy was gathered on that Hamra-scented corner, where several joyful human beings came holding the most powerful weapon of all, a relaxing smile it was. I must admit I came ill and tired, but the thrill of our last flashmob 2 weeks ago was enough to make the pain vanish on that same corner. Amazingly they all came at the time we already set earlier, and to a much more astonishment, numbers of newcomers began to rapidly rise. Last time they came alone, each by himself, which made them heroes as I once called them. But this time was completely different since the groups that came were, each by themselves, the main essence of such a flashmob. Tribute to her lover .."It was really awesome. Thanks for brightening up our lives!".. Hug me and touch my hair for free Rules were explained a...

A Missed Bed Time Story..

Image
Now come my dear child, those tears won't get you farther than my lap. Tonight, you'll sleep by my voice hearing the coziest story there is. Once upon a lovely time as lovely as your face, the moon called for one star, a unique one she is, to come over from the galaxy of starry land, to the humble place of his shiny nights.. I'm telling you this as I lay my legs into the sea, resting your head on my lap, gently caressing your silky hair..to be continued..

Repression

Living in a society such as mine is a disease by itself. You're brought up having several built-in aches and burdens that might (or will be) your biggest obstacle. You'll end up at the age of 20 yrs old feeling overwhelmed with the poison stuck on your skin from your surrounding. Being poor will seem to you like something extremely unacceptable, because dreams need money to happen; therefore, getting involved in too many business projects, being employed in several part-time jobs, or maybe cheating and stealing in some extreme cases might be the only solution. You are also "chipped" with an on-going love for lust and sexual desires due to an innate sexual repression, driven always by the standard stereotypes of a woman to the child's eyes, a woman that represents his mother's breasts of which he was obligated to abandon, a woman who is the imagery of a dream girl, a woman with her amazingly heavenly voice, a woman so charming that he would sell his soul for; ...

Rumi Said... - Only You

Image
Only you I choose among the entire world. Is it fair of you letting me be unhappy? My heart is a pen in your hand. It is all up to you to write me happy or sad. I see only what you reveal and live as you say. All my feelings have the color you desire to paint. From the beginning to the end, no one but you.
